Homework Task 1.

Here are 5 pages from Indesign that I have created to show what type of Graphic designers and their work that inspire me.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of everything that David Carson has created. However, I love this front cover that he created for Little White Lies film magazine. The typography is slick and elegant although it does have a 'dark' edge to it. As for the drawing, the detail shown is stunning. I would love to create something like this, however, my drawing skills are poor!

I think out of these five designers I like Paul Rand's the best. I love how he uses colour, especially in these four advertising images. Personally I prefer images to contain one or two primary colours rather than just a 'mish-mash' of colour as I feel it looks tidier and more aesthetically pleasing.

Out of these five designers, Saul Bass was the only one that I had known to prior taking the module. Being a film studies student and studying films like Vertigo at college, I was well aware of his talent. Although, not as refined as Paul Rand's designs I once again like the use of colour, as a small palette is used, making it pleasing to the eye and still making the posters stand out.
As you have probably guess for the last two designers I prefer to keep the use of lots of different colours to a minimum. Many of Joshua Davis' pieces are extremely colour and although look for want of a better word 'pretty', I feel that it is too much. This is why I like these to images as once again he has used a small colour palette. The intricate shapes have also inspired me as by doing this you can really create something new and unique.

Although seem colourful images (and as i've already established…that's not my 'thing'!) I like the playfulness they show. I am also inspired that just by cutting section out of block of colour, a perfectly understandable icon is created as it is with image 2. I don't really like the 3rd image of a stamp designed for the Mexico 68 Olympics as I find it too garish. However, I have chosen it to show that the use of colour can represent and symbolise a person, thing and in this case country. As personally when I think of Mexico I think of a vibrant, colourful and exotic country and these colours signify to the viewer just this.
